Solid fraction — where it appears

The share of a fabric's own volume that is fibre rather than air, which for an ordinary jersey is about a quarter. It is a length of yarn's cross-section over the cell it occupies, so it needs the fabric's thickness as well as its plan, and it is the number a fabric's warmth, its compression and its bulk density all follow from.
