Thermal resistance — where it appears

How well a fabric resists heat flowing through it: its thickness divided by its conductivity, in square-metre-kelvins per watt. Because a cloth is mostly air, the conductivity is nearly the same for every fabric, so the resistance is very nearly a thickness — and a garment's is mostly the still-air layer outside the cloth rather than the cloth.
